Robert Graves Wrote to Support His Vice

I write mainly for curiosity, to clear my mind on some vexed or ob­scure topic, and never repeat myself if I can avoid it. I first chose to be a literary hobo be­cause this life promised me the security and independence need­ed for pursuing a secret vice: poetry. That it has done. Or put it another way: Prose books are the show dogs I breed and sell to support my cat.
